Securing employment visas in the UAE serves as an essential requirement for companies who wish to hire foreign workers. The process requires the applicant to obtain an entry permit and complete medical fitness assessments and obtain an Emirates ID.
Overview
An Employment Visa (often referred to loosely as a work visa or residency visa) is the legal gateway that allows a foreign national to live and work in the United Arab Emirates.
Unlike a tourist visa, this route is built entirely around an official relationship between an employer (the sponsor) and the employee. The standard corporate employment visa is typically valid for 2 years and is fully renewable. It ensures that the employee’s rights, salary, and medical benefits are legally protected under UAE Labour Law.
Highlights & Benefits
Two-Year Residency
Most jobs come with a 2-year renewable residency. Your company sponsors everything, which means you have the legal right to stay and work here under the full protection of MoHRE laws.
Tax-Free Paycheck
The UAE is famous for its 0% income tax. What you see on your contract is exactly what hits your bank account every month—no deductions, no surprises. It’s a game-changer for your savings.
The Gratuity Safety Net
Even when you decide to move on, the law has your back. As long as you finish a year, you get a gratuity payment (end-of-service bonus) based on your basic salary and how long you stayed.
Documents Required
Attested Degrees
If you’re in a professional role, your degree must be fully attested. This means stamps from your home country’s foreign ministry and the UAE Embassy. Without these, the system won’t let you register.
Passport & Photos
You need a clear scan of your passport (valid for 6+ months). Also, get a high-res digital photo with a plain white background—the new 2026 AI systems are very strict about this.
Signed Offer Letter
The whole process starts with the official MoHRE offer letter. It’s a bilingual document (English/Arabic) that outlines your salary and benefits. Once you sign it, your company can apply for your quota.
Process Flow
1 The “Pink Visa” Entry
First, your employer gets your Entry Permit, often called the “Pink Visa.” This lets you enter the UAE legally to finish your paperwork. If you’re already here, we just do a “Status Change” to flip your file.
2 The Medical Screening
You’ll need to head to an approved health center for a blood test and chest X-ray. Pro-tip: Go for the “VIP” or “24-hour” service if you don’t want to wait days for your results to clear.
3 Biometrics for ID
Next up is the ICP center visit. They’ll take your fingerprints and an eye scan for your Emirates ID. Make sure you bring your original passport; they won’t accept a copy or a phone photo for this.
4 Labour Contract Signing
While the ID is processing, you’ll sign your final Labour Contract. This is the big one that gets filed with the Ministry and sets your official rights as an employee in the UAE.
5 Health Insurance Link
You can’t get your visa without insurance. Your company must link your health insurance policy to your residency file in the system. Once that’s synced, the immigration officers give the final “Approved” status.
6 Digital Visa Activation
Everything is paperless now. You won’t get a sticker in your passport. Instead, your residency is activated digitally on the UAEICP app, and your physical ID card will be delivered to your office by courier.
